Vladimir Putin's schedule this week is filling up, but it still does not include President Obama.
Russia announced Tuesday that its president will meet Friday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in France as both leaders attend 70th anniversary ceremonies for D-Day.
Putin also has announced meetings with French President Francois Hollande and British Prime Minister David Cameron, amid tensions over Russia's incursion into Ukraine.
Obama, who will attend the D-Day ceremonies as part of his trip this week to Europe, said at a news conference in Poland that he is likely to run into Putin on Friday, but no formal meeting is scheduled.
"I've always had a business-like relationship with Mr. Putin," Obama said.
"The Kremlin said that in a telephone conversation Tuesday, Putin and Merkel called for coordinated measures to defuse the crisis in Ukraine and discussed talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union on gas supplies."
