President Obama back at the White House. / Susan Walsh, AP

It wasn't your typical Memorial Day weekend trip.

President Obama returned to the White House at around 7 a.m. Monday, wrapping up a trip to Afghanistan that covered 15,083 miles in 32 hours.

Obama, who left the White House late Saturday night, spent about four hours on the ground at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.

The commander-in-chief addressed the troops, received a briefing from on-site commanders and visited wounded warriors at the hospital.

Obama -- who presumably slept aboard Air Force One on the way back -- still has Memorial Day duties to perform.

First, he is scheduled to host a breakfast with veteran and military family service organizations, as well as members of the military leadership.

Late Monday morning, the president and first lady Michelle Obama travel to Arlington National Cemetery for traditional Memorial Day events.

Obama will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and deliver remarks.
