BEIJING (AP) - A moderate earthquake has struck southwest China, injuring about a dozen people and damaging thousands of houses.

The quake happened early Saturday in quake-prone Yingjiang county in Yunnan province near China's border with Myanmar, also known as Burma. The U.S. Geological Survey said it had a magnitude of 5.6.

The province's seismological bureau said on its microblog that more than 9,000 houses were damaged, with a dozen collapsing. It said 13 people suffered minor injuries.
