President Obama shakes hands with Japan's Emperor Akihito, accompanied by Empress Michiko in Tokyo. / Kimimasa Mayama, AP

It looks like Japan will win the prize for best dessert on President Obama's trip to Asia: An ice cream confection sculpted in the shape of the Mount Fuji.

Even better, Obama told reporters, the ice cream had special spice.

"They have the green tea at the bottom that I've spoken of having when I was six (years old), and I was very pleased," Obama said. "It was delicious."

The president even brought up the Mount Fuji ice cream dish in a farewell meeting with the emperor and empress of Japan, just before his overnight trip to South Korea.

"The press was asking if I enjoyed the green tea ice cream," Obama said.

"Did you enjoy it?" the empress asked.

"Yes," Obama replied. "Absolutely."
