President Obama meets Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan. / Kimimasa Mayama, AP

President Obama mentioned aging and the pressures of office with the Emperor of Japan.

Speaking Thursday with Emperor Akihito, Obama noted that when they met four years ago, he had no gray hairs; now his head is full of them.

"You have a very hard job," the Emperor replied to the president.

Reporters also overheard Obama talking about efforts early in his presidency to stabilize the world financial system.

Obama and Emperor Akihito met at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
