At least one shot was fired inside a Salt Lake City federal courtroom Monday during the start of the criminal trial for an accused gang member, a federal official said.

Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Salt Lake, said the incident happened in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell, but it was not immediately clear whether there were injuries.

Rydalch said the trial of Siale Angilau was just beginning in the courtroom where extra security had been posted.
