Fans enter Fenway Park before the Boston Red Sox home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers in Boston on Friday. / Michael Dwyer, AP

It was a big day at Fenway Park - and not just for the Boston Red Sox.

On the same day the team received their World Series rings, Cody Anderson and Shannon Armitage, who met on Twitter in 2011, were married at the home of their favorite team.

It was only fitting that their nuptials would occur at Fenway as a Twitter posting from the team account had put them into contact in the first place.

A 2011 birthday tweet from the Boston Red Sox to Armitage had caught Anderson's eye.

He reached out to her, which led to more tweets, then texts - and the rest, as they say, is history.

Naturally, given Twitter's role in their love story, the couple tweeted as their big moment approached at Fenway.
