President Obama has a string of meetings Thursday, with guest lists ranging from congressional leaders to Olympic athletes.

The president may also speak again on Wednesday's deadly shootings at Fort Hood, Texas.

As the schedule now stands, the president and first lady Michelle Obama host a mid-afternoon event for teams and delegations from the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Russia will also the topic of an early evening meeting with Vice President Biden and House and Senate leaders from both parties.

Obama will discuss his recent trip to Europe and efforts to sanction Russia over its annexation of the Crimea region of Ukraine, the White House says.

Also on Thursday, Obama signs the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act into law.

The new law repeals taxpayer financing of political conventions, and uses $126 million over ten years for research into pediatric cancer and other childhood disorders like autism and down syndrome.
