The divorce of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his wife, Lyudmila, has been finalized, the Kremlin confirmed, according to news reports.

Dmitry Peskov, a Putin spokesman, told a Russian news agency the divorce had been "completed," according to AFP.

The couple announced last June that they were ending their 30-year marriage.

In a televised announcement last year that they were breaking up, Putin said it was a "joint decision" and the couple "practically never saw each other," according to the Associated Press.

"We will eternally be very close people," Lyudmila Putin said.

The Putins have two adult daughters, Maria and Yekaterina.
