Turns out that selfie with President Obama and baseball star David Ortiz has a corporate angle.
Samsung confirmed to The Boston Globe that it assisted Ortiz with his snap during a White House ceremony Tuesday for the World Series champion Boston Red Sox.
"We were thrilled to see the special, historic moment David Ortiz captured with his Galaxy Note 3 during his White House visit," the company said in a statement. "It was an honor to help him capture such an incredible and genuine moment of joy and excitement. Similar to the selfie Ellen (DeGeneres) was able to capture during the Oscars, this was an opportunity for David to share the incredible moment with his fans."
Obama did not know about the Samsung connection, officials said.
From The Boston Globe:
"Samsung confirmed that it had helped Ortiz take Tuesday's selfie with President Obama. The mobile provider then promoted the picture on Twitter to the company's 5.2 million followers.
"Trade publication Sports Business Journal reported on Monday that Ortiz had inked a new endorsement deal with the cellphone provider."
