Jet Feirn, 9, had waited 15 months for an answer to the letter to his hero, Olympic medal-winning snowboarder Shaun White.

This week, White wrote back - in a big way. The gold medalist sent Jet an autographed snowboard, helmet, goggles, a backpack and a poster, KARE-TV reports.

The two have some things in common. Like White, Jet has a heart defect that has led to two open-heart surgeries before kindergarten, which he wrote about in his letter.

Something else they share: Jet loves snowboarding.

KARE-TV of Minneapolis aired Jet's story last month. A viewer with professional connections to White saw the story and intervened to make sure the boy's letter was answered.

Jet's dream when he grows up?

"Snowboard in the Olympics when I'm maybe 20 years old," he told KARE.
