President Obama / David Karp, AP

Preparations for the November elections take center stage Tuesday as President Obama travels to New York City for a pair of Democratic fundraisers.

One of the Big Apple events is for the Democratic National Convention, the other for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

The DNC fundraiser is at the home of Alan Patricof, a long-time fundraiser for former secretary of State - and possible 2016 presidential candidate - Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In the morning, before his trip, Obama signs a bill designating the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands as part of the California Coastal National Monument.
