The sidewalk in front of the White House in Washington is cleared of snow on March 3. / Pablo Martinez Monsivais, AP

The White House says the heavy snow in Washington on Monday is forcing schedule changes.

Press secretary Jay Carney has canceled his daily media briefing.

Much of the federal government is closed because of the inclement weather.

One major event remains on the White House schedule, however: President Obama's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the early afternoon.
