Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus and William Louis-Dreyfus arrive to a state dinner hosted by President Obama on Feb. 11. / Getty Images

Politics and popular entertainment met at the vice presidential level during the White House state dinner Tuesday night.

The real vice president, Joe Biden, sat next to actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays fictional vice president Selina Meyer on the HBO comedy Veep.

They attended the dinner honoring French President Francois Hollande.

When a reporter asked Louis-Dreyfus her favorite part of the evening, she pointed at Biden and said: "Look who I'm sitting next to!"

President Obama's vice president interrupted to tell the reporter, "Hey, stop stop screwin' around, she's my date!" Laughing, Biden quickly added, "just kidding!"

Note: Louis-Dreyfus' actual "date" for the evening was her father.
