The White House, seen through a fence. / Jacquelyn Martin, AP

WASHINGTON - A man was arrested Friday while attempting to scale a perimeter fence outside the White House, the Secret Service reported.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was pulled off the fence line about 2:35 p.m. by U.S. Park Service Police and Secret Service agents while carrying to two bags.

The contents of the bags were being examined by analysts with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. Though authorities said the bags did not appear to represent an immediate danger.
