President Obama and Sen. Harry Reid / Pablo Martinez Monsivais, AP

President Obama spends Monday plotting some legislative strategy.

The president meets in the afternoon with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., presumably to discuss plans ranging from immigration to increasing the debt ceiling.

Another possible topic: Reid's opposition to Obama's call for fast track authority that would permit up-or-down congressional votes on proposed free trade agreements, without amendments.

Science and research is also on Obama's agenda Monday. He meets with recipients of the 2013 Fermi Award, which honors excellence in energy science and technology.
