Martin Luther King Jr. and President Obama / AP

Monday is a day of commemoration for President Obama.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama will participate in a community service event to honor civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. on the federal holiday that bears King's name.

Officials have not said what the event will be.

The Obamas will participate "in celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and in honor of Dr. King's life and legacy," says the White House schedule.
