There are some relatively unusual items on the Wednesday photo wires: pictures of President Obama and Vice President Biden at their weekly lunch.

The White House granted brief photo and video pool access to the once-private lunch, part of a new media outreach effort.

It comes in response to protests by photographers about a relative lack of access in recent months.

It also comes a day after publicity about a new book by former Defense secretary Robert Gates with critical comments about Obama and Biden (particularly the latter).

No reporters were allowed at the Obama-Biden lunch, however - so there were no questions about Gates' book.
