President Obama is back in Washington, D.C., but there are no public events on his schedule Monday.
Obama, who returned to the White House on Sunday after more than two weeks of vacation in Hawaii, does have a string of meetings with advisers.
One topic is likely to be efforts to persuade congressional Republicans to extend unemployment benefits that lapsed at the start of the year. Obama is scheduled to meet Tuesday with some of the people who have lost benefits.
The Democratic-run Senate is expected to vote Monday to extend the unemployment insurance.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and other Republicans say an extension needs to be accompanied by offsetting budget cuts.
