President Obama on Air Force One. / Ben Margot, AP

President Obama has been doing less travel in 2013, and there's a major reason why.

No election to worry about.

Obama spent 178 days outside of Washington, D.C., during his 2012 re-election bid, notes National Journal.

This year, through Thanksgiving, he's been out of town only 94 days.

Most of Obama's travels last year involved political battleground states, reports National Journal:

"All nine of Campaign 2012's hotly contested states -- Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire -- went from seeing Obama for 137 days in 2012 to only 19 days this year.

"Some of those states, including Iowa and New Hampshire, have scored not even one visit in 2013."
