President Obama / Manuel Balce Ceneta, AP

The White House is denying a report out of the Middle East that President Obama is trying to arrange a visit to Tehran, Iran.

Al-Jarida, a news outlet in Kuwait, reported that Obama would like to visit Tehran in the middle of next year.

"There is no truth to this report," said Caitlin Hayden, spokesperson for the National Security Council.

Last month, the U.S. and allies reached an interim deal with Iran -- reduced sanctions in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program -- and are seeking to work out a long-term agreement.

Jimmy Carter was the last U.S. president to visit Iran, back before the Islamic revolution in 1979 and the subsequent hostage crisis.
