Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels smiles before Game 1 of baseball's National League division series against the St. Louis Cardinals, Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 in Philadelphia. / Matt Rourke, AP

On Christmas Eve, Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi adopted a baby girl from Ethiopia. Young Reeve Hamels joins older brothers Caleb and Braxton in the growing Hamels family.

In my last job, I compiled perhaps the Internet's most impressive collection of embarrassing photos of Cole Hamels. So upon the news of the Hamels' adoption, I received several emails and Tweets tipping me off to the following photo. But I'm just not going to make fun of the guy for adopting a child who was abandoned at birth and left alone in a field in Ethiopia six months ago.

Also, this photo, via Jeff Skversky of 6abc in Philadelphia, isn't really embarrassing at all. It's just a picture of Cole Hamels in some fancy-pants restaurant with a devastatingly cute Ethiopian baby:

Congratulations to the Hamels! Don't forget to celebrate!
