Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard was thrown out of a high school basketball game on Tuesday night, the Associated Press and KCCI-TV reported.

Pollard's son Thomas is a sophomore for Gilbert, which lost 68-55 at Colfax-Mingo.

The report said Pollard was escorted out after disagreeing with a referee's call on the court.

Rick Wulkow, executive director at the Iowa High School Athletic Association said Pollard called him on Wednesday morning about the comment he made to the official.

"Jamie was in the role of a parent supporting the Gilbert team," Wulkow said in an email to The Des Moines Register. "Jamie has handled this situation as expected, in a very professional matter. He has dealt with the situation appropriately as far as the IHSAA is concerned."

Colfax-Mingo superintendent Marty Lucas told the AP that Pollard was "a dad being a dad."
