When Phil Mickelson was complaining, and then apologizing for complaining, about his big tax bill he wasn't just whining about spare change.

To no one's surprise, the lefthander is second only to Tiger Woods on Golf Digest's newest list of top 50 earners in golf.

Including on and off course earnings, Woods earned $86.12 million last year with Mickelson at $45.33 million.

Although they haven't scared a PGA Tour leaderboard in years, two of game's greatest names -- Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus -- sit third and fourth. Palmer earned more than $36 million and Nicklaus $28 million.

It is the 10th consecutive year that Woods, Mickelson, Palmer and Nicklaus have made the list.

Rory McIlroy, expected to reserve an annual spot is fifth at $22 million. He is followed in the top 10 by Ernie Els ($18 million); Brandt Snedeker ($17 million); Greg Norman ($17 million); Luke Donald ($14 million) and Gary Player ($14 million).
