CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Authorities say a husband shot and killed his wife then shot himself Wednesday inside a hospital room in Stratford, N.J.

Police say the husband, identified as 63-year-old Raymond Wychowanec, is still alive and has been flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. His wife is identified as Denise Wychowanec, 62. The couple are from Gloucester Township, just south of Cherry Hill.

Officials confirm that the son, Ryan Wychowanec, 35, was found shot dead earlier in the day at the Wychowanecs' home.

The shooting was reported around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in a second floor room in Kennedy University Hospital - Stratford Campus. Officials say Raymond was visiting his wife, who was a patient at the hospital.

Authorities say evidence and witness statements show that Raymond shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said it was working to provide more information.

According to The Associated Press, hospital officials would not say why the woman was hospitalized, but neighbors said she had long been using a wheelchair and ambulances had been at the couple's home lately.

Neighbors said they did not hear shots coming from the home. They said the couple's son, who worked as a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, often stayed at the home.

Laura McCafferty, who has lived in the neighborhood for 18 years, said she did not see the mother or son much but spoke sometimes with Raymond Wychowanec, who she said cared for his wife.

"He was a nice man," she said.

Wednesday's shooting was the third outbreak of gun violence at a South Jersey hospital this year.

A Camden man identified as 71-year-old Fernando Ramos torched his home on Aug. 18, then drove to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, where he fatally shot himself in a public restroom shortly after midnight.

In March, a 26-year-old man shot himself to death in the emergency department at Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury.
