LONDON - Military jets in the United Kingdom have escorted a passenger plane into Manchester Airport amid information given by the pilot to authorities that the plane may had a "device" on board.

The plane, a Qatar Airways jet on a flight from Doha, Qatar, landed safely. Manchester Police subsequently said that a man was taken off the plane and that they were treating the matter as "an isolated incident." He was later arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.

Air traffic into and out of the airport was temporarily halted while the possible threat was investigated but has since started up again.

Qatar Airways said the Airbus A330-300 plane had 265 passengers and 13 crew on board.

Britain's Ministry of Defense confirmed that Typhoon aircraft were to asked to investigate the incident.
