An infant was found Monday morning near White Cloud, Michigan. / WZZM-TV

WHITE CLOUD, Mich. - A baby girl is alive and in fair condition after she was discovered abandoned on the side of a dirt road in Newaygo County, Mich., on Monday.

A man walking his dog discovered the infant under a satellite dish at about 10:30 a.m. near Diamond Lake in White Cloud, Mich.

The man told WZZM the baby was not crying and his dog spotted her first. He said she was in plain sight and still had the umbilical cord attached.

Newaygo County Sheriff's deputies say the baby had some bumps and bruises and was less than six hours old.

Authorities found the mother and both she and the child are hospitalized in fair condition at Gerber Hospital in Fremont.

Under Michigan's safe haven law, a person can anonymously surrender an infant within 72 hours of birth to an emergency service provider, like a hospital, police, or fire station.
