Flags fly at half staff outside the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., on Aug. 26, 2009, after the death of Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. / Stephan Savoia, AP

A man was in police custody on Cape Cod early Wednesday after breaking into the Kennedy compound and later telling police he was looking for singer Katy Perry, authorities said.

Another news organization, WHDH-TV in Boston, reported the man told police he wanted to speak with the Kennedys.

The incident began unfolding Tuesday night when "a gentleman who owns a home on Irving Avenue" called police in Barnstable, Mass., from his permanent home in Connecticut and said he was concerned about his teen son at the Cape Cod home, police officer John O'Hare of the Barnstable Police Department said.

The man explained to police that when he called the Cape Cod home, an unidentified man answered, O'Hare said.

Police said that when they arrived at the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port - a residential village within Barnstable - they found a black vehicle in the driveway and located James Lacroix, 53. "He stated that he was looking for the singer Katy Perry," O'Hare said.

Lacroix was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering and held in Barnstable. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Wednesday morning.

According to WHDH, the man is a disabled veteran. He was able to enter the home through an unlocked door, WHDH said.
