A 12-year-old Wisconsin girl who was stabbed 19 times by friends who said they were motivated by a horror figure has a long road ahead but is beginning to heal, her family said on a Facebook page.

The family of the girl said on a page set up to raise money for the girl's medical expenses that the girl has been to the movies and spent some time with her family. The family has asked that the girl's name be kept private because she is a minor.

"Though many days consist of medical appointments and rehabilitation, recently she and her father enjoyed a 'daddy ?? daughter night at the movies' and thoroughly enjoyed a Disney film," the post read. "It also included, (after much persistence) a stop for a much deserved treat at the snack area."

The Facebook page is called Hearts for Healing and asks supporters of the girl to send her purple hearts to her. People are mailing in handmade heart-shaped cards with supportive messages on them. One photo on the page shows the little girl surrounded by dozens of the cards -- her face does not appear in the photo. The page also links to an online fundraising page on GoFundMe.com in which the family explains it hopes to raise $250,000 toward the girl's medical bills. As of Tuesday night, the page raised $49,353.

According to the fundraising page, the stabbing took place on May 31 when two other 12-year-olds lured the girl into the woods to play hide and seek. Once in the woods, the two other girls allegedly began stabbing their friend.

"Remarkably, having sustained stab wounds to her arms, legs and torso, she managed to crawl to a nearby street and was found by a passerby, who contacted the Waukesha (Wis.) police department," the family wrote on the GoFundMe page.

The two girls who are now in custody for the stabbing said they carried out the deed to appease a fictional horror character called Slenderman, or Slender Man, who has become popular on Internet horror sites.

The mythical adult male figure is said to wear a dark suit and have no face. His arms and legs are longer than normal and he can extend them at will, according to postings on the creepypasta.wikia.com website. He is malevolent and appears to target children, often for kidnapping, according to the site.

Though most references claim Slenderman is fictional, some people claim to have seen him walking around at night or peering into windows.
