1. President Obama greets New Zealand PM at the White House

The president will meet with Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand to highlight America's increasingly close relationship with New Zealand, particularly involving the Trans-Pacific Partnership, climate change and military-to-military cooperation. Earlier this year, Key and Obama placed the politics on hold in favor to putt on the green in Hawaii.

2. Detroit receives $200 million allowance

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will sign a package of bills Friday that will send almost $200 million to Detroit to help it emerge from bankruptcy. But there are strings attached. A nine-member commission will oversee the city's finances, budgets and contracts for at least 13 years and set the level of contributions made to city employees' retirement and health care plans.

3. Biden visits Guatemala to discuss child migration crisis

The number of unaccompanied children crossing the border is up 92% from the same period last year.

4. So ugly they're cute

A 5-day fair in Petaluma, Calif., brings dogs - varying both in breed and beauty - from all parts of the country to vie for the title of World's Ugliest Dog. Beagle-Bassett mix Walle took home the prize last year, but a new class is pawing into the mix. The winner receives a trophy and $1,500 award to celebrate their, well, ugliness. Bonus pup factoid: Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day.

5. Ukraine unveils peace plan

Hostilities between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists have escalated as Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko was said Friday to be about to unveil a 14-point peace plan to curb an ongoing insurgency.
