East: Ongoing thunderstorms along with warm and humid conditions will continue in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Heavy rain will spread over the Northeast and New England, where temperatures will be cooler.

Plains: Severe thunderstorms are possible in the northern and southern High Plains on Friday. Large hail and damaging wind will be the primary threats.

West: The Northwest will see showers and some thunderstorms, while the Southwest remains hot and dry.

Weather history for June 13: In 1985, the temperature dropped to a record low of 39 degrees in Grand Rapids, Mich. In 1991, lightning struck a tree at the U.S. Open golf tournament in Chaska, Minn., killing one person and injuring six.

In 2011, the temperature hit 102 degrees in Savannah, Ga., a record high.
