Buckeyes Matt Wilhelm and Chris Vance will be in an unusual situation Saturday when they take the field for Hula Bowl Maui 2003 on Saturday.
Wilhelm and Vance will play for the Aina, or "land" team in the Hula Bowl -- for coach Larry Coker. Coker, of course, is coach of the University of Miami, the team the Buckeyes beat in the Fiesta Bowl to win the national championship.
There are 10 Big Ten players among the 88 in the bowl. The Aina team also has Iowa's Associated Press Player of the Year Brad Banks, Indiana's Enoch Demar, Penn State's Joe Iorio and Minnesota's Dan Nystrom and Michael Lehan. Minnesota head coach Glen Mason will serve as an assistant coach for the team.
Three Kai, or "ocean" team, has Michigan's Charles Drake and Cato June, as well as Northwestern's Austin King.
The Hula Bowl Maui 2003 kicks off at 8 p.m. in Maui's War Memorial Stadium.
