2001: 4-7, 2-6 in the Big Ten (tie for 10th)
Coach: Randy Walker, 15-19 in three years at the school
Returning starters: 11 (4 offense, 6 defense, 1 specialist)
Top returnees: WR Kunle Patrick (56 rec., 692 yd., 5 TD);
LB Pat Durr (101 tackles)
Outlook: The Wildcats obviously like to puzzle the prognosticators.
In 2000, they were picked to finish last and finished first; in
2001 they were picked to finish first and tied for last. Significant
losses at the skill positions make it impossible to believe Northwestern
can make a run at post-season play. Gloom and doom is predicted
for the Wildcats, and this time the forecast will be correct.
Soundbite: We have more talent than in 2000; Im
convinced of that. The question is, will we come together as a team?
